Probably NOT,
but you get the idea. With this project
you can do so much!
.
The ancient art of Origami has captured
the imagination of people all over
the World, not just in Japan, where
it originated. Now Art Therapists
have found that the art of paper folding
can be introduced to those who find
that art therapy has healing qualities.
One of the Art Therapists in our
community, Michiko Spring has
found that certain art pieces can
be used with children. She explains
the metaphor of each and children
make the connections.
You will discover that when origami
is done with another person the friendly
encouraging nature of teaching another
to learn these folds allows a special
environment of camaraderie.
The first lesson is the house. When
children make this they are taping
into a sense of security.
The activity of the crane is a more
difficult art piece but well worth
the time and energy. Michiko exolains
that the crane is a symbol of freedom,
peace and joyful expression of being
part of a community.
Come and join in to learn something
new and to create to support the Purple
Apple after school arts project.

All Things Apple Workshop..by Renee
Conrad
Two Workshops that we lovingly call
the Make One, Take One Workshops are
being held this summer.
They both focus on making art pieces
that will be for sale in the future
to benefit The After School Creative
Arts Program and CCAT
At both workshops participants will
be encouraged to make items that are
considered finished products with
the idea that they will learn how
to make something and/or be willing
to make an item and give it to our
inventory of items that will be for
sale mainly at the All Things Apple
event. Then when they have donated
it they can make it again and take
it with them.
We are focusing this year again on
All Things Apple so designs using
apples pictures of apples and containers
to hold apples are suggested.
We will be making an Origami Kit
that features easy to make origami
art pieces such as boxes, cranes and
a house that turns into a piano. Workshop
participants will help to assemble
the kits. A lovely cover holds items
such as a picture of the completed
art piece a description of how to
make it and paper the correct size
and color to actually fold it. There
is also written information in the
kit that will talk about art therapy
and why we chose these particular
items
Another art project will be decorating
containers. We have gathered many
different size and shapes of containers
Such as boxes with lids. We will be
using collage, decorative papers and
craft add on items such as jewels,
buttons, ribbons so that apples, and
other items can be placed inside and
sold
Because we are working at The Studio
individuals can bring a canvas and
paint an art piece that would be for
sale.
There will also be small items that
can be painted.
